The chief executive officer of Consonance Capital, Mitchell Blutt earned a bachelor of arts, a master of business administration, and a doctor of medicine from the University of Pennsylvania before focusing his career on healthcare investments. Still active with his alma mater, Mitchell Blutt endows the Blutt Singer-Songwriter Symposium as well as a variety of other programs at Penn.aok
Since 2007, the Kelly Writers House at the University of Pennsylvania has hosted the Blutt Singer-Songwriter Symposium. Funded by Mitchell and Margo Blutt, this annual program brings some of history’s most renowned performers to this intimate location to entertain audiences with some of their songs and talk about their careers. Beginning with Roseanne Cash, this initiative has also featured Suzanne Vega, Patti Smith, and Lou Reed.
In 2013, the Blutt Singer-Songwriter Symposium welcomed two artists half a year apart. February brought folk singer and humorist Loudon Wainwright III to the campus, and the event aired on local station KWH-TV. In September, Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young appeared. This Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee discussed his experiences with John Lennon and Woodstock and played “Teach Your Children.” To listen to samples of these performances, visit Writing.UPenn.edu/wh/involved/programs/blutt
